Behavior Strategies
Reinforcements
I believe it is important to give student reinforcement for excellent work, and for good behavior. Being rewarded gives students confidence, and it shows they are being appreciated.
Expectations
It is important to have high expectations of your students. Constantly giving them work that is too easy (and boring) for them can result in disruptive behavior. I believe that having high expectations of my students and providing work that challenges them will only benefit them and reduce disruptive behavior.
Individual Relationships
It is important to have a relationship with each student because it creates a bond. If there is a bond, then there is trust. The teacher and student can have open discussions about what may cause disruptive behavior and how to address them.
Providing Necessary Support
Providing necessary support in the classroom is not just being a confidant to your students. It involves differentiating the work load for students. In addition, providing students with the necessary materials (calculators, memory aids, extra time, stress balls, etc...) is crucial to their well being.
Being A Positive Role Model
I believe that by being a positive role model, students will respect you and will behave in a positive manner. Teachers need to be fair and consistent in the classroom in order to eliminate disruptive behavior.
