Establishing Structure
Classroom Rules
I like for my students to create their own rules. It allows them to feel that they are a part of the classroom community and that their opinion matters. Rules should always be positive, and kept consistent.
"Le Menu du Jour"
"Menu of the Day"
Having the schedule of the day on the board allows students to know exactly what is planned. It helped students with behavior issues (because if something fun was planned for later in the day, they knew they had to behave in order to participate).
Safe Community
Making students feel welcome in my class is important. They will only start to learn once they are comfortable and safe. To ensure this, I need to share certain aspects of my life with my students. This way they can learn about me, and might be able to relate to me. My teaching needs to be enthusiastic or else my students won't be motivated to learn.
